48-HOUR GENERAL SAFETY AWARENESS

The 48-Hour General Safety Awareness Training Program is designed to provide workers and other personnel with a broad understanding of workplace health and safety. The training is especially intended for people working at construction sites or in other industries, including HSE professionals, engineers, supervisors, foremen, workers and others. The program introduces participants to important safety requirements, workplace hazards, safe working practices, emergency arrangements and the responsibilities of individuals at work.

The training covers a wide range of subjects, including general induction, personal protective equipment, toolbox talks, work environment and welfare facilities, hazard identification, fire safety, work at height, scaffolding, MEWPs, excavation, confined spaces, hot work, electrical safety, chemical safety, noise, vibration, radiation, machine safety, mechanical lifting, manual handling, movement of vehicles and people, permit-to-work systems, basic first aid and CPR, and risk assessment. The program is intended to build awareness and help participants recognise hazards and follow safer methods of working.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

The aims and objectives of the 48 Hours General Safety Awareness Training Program are to:

  • Provide general awareness of workplace health and safety.
  • Introduce workers to the organization’s safety requirements and safe systems of work.
  • Improve awareness of common workplace hazards and suitable precautions.
  • Explain the correct selection, use, care and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Develop awareness of toolbox talks and worker participation in safety discussions.
  • Promote safe working practices for work at height, scaffolding, MEWPs, excavation and confined spaces.
  • Raise awareness of fire safety, fire types and the correct use of fire extinguishers.
  • Improve awareness of hot-work hazards and precautions.
  • Develop awareness of electrical hazards, electrical shock, grounding, protective devices and lockout/tagout.
  • Introduce chemical, noise, vibration and radiation hazards.
  • Improve awareness of machine safety, mechanical lifting, manual handling and workplace traffic movement.
  • Introduce permit-to-work systems, basic first aid and CPR, and risk assessment.
  • Help participants understand their individual safety responsibilities and the importance of reporting unsafe conditions.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By attending the training, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the purpose of general induction training and the safety information that should be provided to workers when they join an organization.
  • Understand workplace health and safety policies, emergency procedures, welfare facilities, safe movement, incident reporting and general safety rules.
  • Understand what PPE is, why it is used and why PPE is considered the last level of control in the training material.
  • Identify common PPE such as safety glasses, goggles, face shields, hearing protection, hard hats, safety shoes, gloves, coveralls and respiratory protection.
  • Understand the basic requirements for PPE selection, fitting, compatibility, storage, training, inspection, replacement and use.
  • Understand the purpose of toolbox talks, their key features, worker participation and record keeping.
  • Recognize the importance of a suitable work environment, adequate workspace, lighting, welfare facilities, drinking water, washing facilities, rest areas and personal storage.
  • Understand the meaning of a hazard and recognize mechanical, physical, chemical, biological, environmental and organizational hazards.
  • Understand the risks associated with working at height and the importance of preventing falls and falling objects.
  • Understand basic ladder safety, including maintaining three points of contact and safe handling of tools.
  • Understand the purpose of personal fall-arrest and fall-restraint systems.
  • Recognize scaffolding as a temporary safe working platform and understand common scaffold types and components.
  • Understand the hazards associated with MEWPs and basic precautions such as stable ground, barriers, guardrails, harnesses, inspection and authorized operation.
  • Understand what excavation is and recognize different types of excavation and associated construction activities.
  • Understand confined-space hazards such as oxygen deficiency or enrichment, toxic or flammable gases, dust, flooding and heat.
  • Understand ventilation as an important control for hazardous atmospheres in confined spaces.
  • Recognize hot work such as welding, cutting, brazing, soldering, grinding and similar spark- or flame-producing activities.
  • Understand hot-work precautions including permits, removal or protection of combustible materials, fire extinguishers and fire watchers.
  • Understand basic electrical hazards, electric shock, grounding, protective devices and lockout/tagout.
  • Understand the importance of chemical safety, noise, vibration, radiation and machine safety.
  • Understand basic mechanical lifting, manual handling and safe movement of vehicles and people at the workplace.
  • Understand the purpose of permit-to-work systems, first aid and CPR, and risk assessment.

BENEFITS OF TRAINING

The training gives participants a broad understanding of the hazards they may face at a construction site or other workplace. By learning about common hazards and safe working practices, participants can improve their ability to recognize unsafe conditions and take appropriate precautions before starting work.

The program also promotes better use of PPE, participation in toolbox talks, safe movement around the workplace, awareness of emergency procedures and understanding of safe systems of work. It provides awareness of high-risk activities such as work at height, excavation, confined-space work, hot work, electrical work, lifting and vehicle movement. The training also introduces first aid, CPR and risk assessment so participants have a wider understanding of workplace safety.

WHO CAN ATTEND THIS TRAINING?

According to the supplied PPT, this training is especially designed for people working at construction sites or in any industry, including:

  • HSE Professionals
  • Engineers
