
BASIC FIRST AID & CPR TRAINING
Injuries can be sustained by anyone at any place from any unfortunate events. An emergency is an unexpected event that requires immediate action to control its turning into a tragic or fatal event. It can happen at any time & anywhere in the office, at the workplace, in the market, or at home. The emergency can be of different types but if it is a medical emergency like a minor injury, sharp cut, laceration, bleeding, unconsciousness, a heart attack, etc. First Aid & CPR, if given to the victim on time, can preserve life, prevent the deterioration of life-threatening injury and promote recovery. Proper Knowledge, training, and skills are required to perform Basic First Aid and CPR in a limited available facility until the arrival of medical assistance.
The Basic First Aid Training undertaken with the IHSM will provide the basic knowledge and competence to the first aid responder, if the worst happens, and thus enhance the capability in rendering services and assistance to the victims to help keep them alive before the arrival of the Emergency Medical Provider.
TRAINING OBJECTIVES
The aim and objective of the Basic First Aid and CPR training are to:
- Preserve life: prevent the escalation of illness or injury and minimize the threat of death,
- Prevent harm from getting worse and
- Promote recovery by using the technique, skills, and practical knowledge until the medical service arrives.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
After completion of the course, the participants will be able to:
- Understand the basic principles of first aid.
- Understand the signs, symptoms, management, and techniques for the life-threatening condition and situation.
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of a trained first aider.
- Assess the scene of an accident before performing first aid.
- Their safety and the safety of others while going to attend to any casualty.
- Understand the methods of assessing the situation and circumstances.
- Know the methods to be applied while performing the survey of the casualty.
- Perform first aid as per the nature of the injury or ill health.
- Perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) if needed.
- To use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) if needed.
- Take precautionary steps to avoid infection or contamination while performing first aid.
- Recognise the steps to be taken to activate an emergency management system.
- Recognize the basic requirements of first aid kit and their use.

If there’s any medical emergency at the workplace, in the market, or at home, at least you won’t be a helpless witness just by standing and waiting for it to get worse. That is why everyone needs to have a basic knowledge of first aid and CPR.
The training provides the ability to:
- Take required actions in a medical emergency,
- Help the people with the ability during an emergency,
- Become individual support for the victim if someone ingested dangerous substances,
- Help the victim in case of cuts, bleeding, or broken bones by using first aid skills,
- Help save the life of someone who suffers from health related problems like unconsciousness or heart attack and
- Help people in natural disasters if occur.

Basic first aid and CPR training enable us to recognise what actions should be taken to control the situation in case of a medical emergency. So, first aid and CPR training should be given to everyone to help someone in need of a medical emergency and save a life.
